Ban Leong has over 30 years practice as a seasoned corporate lawyer, and provides valuable expertise in developing strategies for Change in multi-brand businesses that involve corporate advisory, commercial and M&A-related work.  He has particular experience advising on corporate, commercial and M&A projects both in the APAC region and globally.

Ban Leong founded Prolegis LLC which, together with Herbert Smith Freehills, launched a Formal Law Alliance in 2015, the Singapore law practice of which Ban helmed for nearly a decade prior to his retirement from legal practice.  

Whilst in practice, Ban Leong has been consistently recommended in key industry publications in the 'International Firm’ category as a leading lawyer for Corporate M&A, including The IFLR1000, The Legal 500 and Chambers Global. He authored The Practical Law Company's series on "Cross Border Acquisitions" for Singapore for both the 2009 & 2011 editions.

Following his active career as a practising lawyer, Ban Leong now focuses his time on consulting, advisory, mentoring, project work and non-profit initiatives.

  • SGX-listed Delfi Ltd on the US$860 million sale of its cocoa ingredients businesses across Asia, Europe and South America, to Barry Callebaut AG
  • Tyco, on a range of acquisitions and divestments across the Asia Pacific and Indian sub-continent
  • a consortium on the Singapore aspects of its proposed bid for the Singapore–Malaysia High Speed Rail project
  • British Telecom on the merger between Starhub and Singapore Cablevision, and its vendor sale as part of the S$457 million initial public offering of StarHub Limited
  • Petra Foods Limited, on its acquisition of a majority stake in the Dutch, German and French cocoa processing and manufacturing operations of, and the joint venture with, the Armajaro Group, as well as its subsequent buy-out of Armajaro's joint venture stake
  • Credit Suisse in relation to the sale of its strategic stake in Indonesian energy group PT Medco Energi
  • Cable & Wireless, in relation to the sale of its residual stake in Singapore-listed MobileOne Ltd, to Telekom Malaysia and the Malaysian government's investment arm, Khazanah Nasional;
